Heisman Busters: Week 1

After week one there were a lot of names that people hadn't recognized on top of statistical leader boards. Dom is doing a great job of updating his picks for Heisman as the season progresses, but there are a few players that may break onto the Heisman scene. Everyone knows a BCS buster, but here come some Heisman busters:

Here is a look at three performances from week one that may find themselves on the radar:


QB: Mark Sanchez: USC: 26/35 74.3% 338 YDS 3 TD 1 INT 178.0 Rating
Why?: If it wasn’t already obvious and I know this isn’t much of a stress but USC jumps two spots to #1 after going on the road to play a BCS school. More than that though they one convincingly and have quickly jumped to the favorite again this season. Secondly, think about USC’s last 4 quarterbacks. In the last 8 years they have had four starters, all were drafted and two were adorned in bronze.
Next Game: The Ohio State University Sept 13th

QB: Max Hall: BYU: 34/41 486 YDs 2 TDs 198.6 rating.
Why?: If BYU beats a couple of Pac-10 teams in a row with games against Washington and UCLA coming up, Hall has a chance to be this years Colt Brennan. That is to way that a Non-BCS QB could break into the hunt if they can finish out their season undefeated.

RB: Jahvid Best: CAL: 24 Car 111 YDS 1 TD 5 Rec 63 YDs 4 KR 103 YDS
Why? Beanie’s injury is like a soap opera and have no idea if he will be able to live to his hype. Noel Devine had only 9 attempts for 47 yards against Villanova. Knowshon Moreno had only 8 attempts for 59 yards although he did have 3 TDs against Georgia Southern. LeSean McCoy rushed 23 times for 71 and one score in a loss to Bowling Green. Jahvid put up his numbers against a good Michigan State team, in a win, and is looking to get Cal into the Top 25.
